Mindy

Queens, New York (Digital)

I’ve got a soft spot for people that introduce me to things, places, anything really, that I haven’t encountered before. In respect to that, Mindy gets twice the credit for not only introducing me to the Queens Botanical Garden but also this really good spot we grabbed lunch from afterwards. It was early enough that the gardens didn’t have a bunch of foot traffic so I was able to keep the backgrounds free of people without having to remove them after the fact. Editing side of things was just as engaging, truthfully. When you’ve photographed people around vegetation so many times you know you’re putting yourself in a position not necessarily to edit this set better than the last but to create a mark of distinction, something that sets it apart from the other times you’ve needed to edit images largely filled with plants and trees. I bounced around to a few varieties of greens but I’d like highlight the one vertical image where I did a color shift entirely to purple. That itself isn’t tough, but isolating the color without using a selection tool was the toughest thing I’ve undertaken outside of being born. Worked out though, so did the whole being born thing.
